Groups Eligible for Exemption

Special needs schools, special needs classes, remote-area schools, and groups such as social welfare facilities for people with disabilities
*In principle, limited to institutions based in Japan.

Exemption Application Procedure

There are three application patterns depending on the characteristics of your group, so please choose the procedure that applies to your group.
Please note that it takes approximately two weeks from submission to receive a response for fee exemption applications.
Pattern 1: Special needs schools (or classes) where the accompanying staff are only teachers, and the visit is limited to the permanent exhibitions (including special exhibitions).

Pattern 2: Groups that meet any of the following conditions:
①Special needs schools (or classes) with accompanying staff other than teachers
②Special needs schools (or classes) visiting both the permanent and special exhibitions
③Remote-area schools

  1. Carefully read the Requests for Group Visitors(リンクを新しいタブで開きます)(201.8 KB).
  2. Register through the Group Visit Registration Site (button at the bottom of the page).
  3. Contact the group visit coordinator by email at dantai@kahaku.go.jp.
  4. Receive the application form by email from the group registration staff.
  5. Submit the completed application form by mail at least two weeks before your visit.
  6. Receive the permission letter by mail from the group registration staff.
  7. Bring it with you on the day of your visit and submit it at the reception desk.
Pattern 3: Groups such as social welfare facilities for people with disabilities (generally limited to facilities located in Japan)

Notes on the Exemption Application Procedure
  • Schedule Change: Please cancel your current registration and register again with the correct information.
  • How to Cancel: Please refer to the Group Visit Registration Confirmation email.
  • Please ensure that you can receive emails from @kahaku.go.jp in advance.
  • If you do not receive the Group Visit Registration Confirmation email, please contact us at dantai@kahaku.go.jp.
