HELP(usage)

You can search plant macrofossil records in Japan going back five million years (Pliocene–Pleistocene).
Please enter keywords here to search for:
Species, Geologic ages, Formations, and/or Authors who reported the fossils.

※If you enter two or more words separated with a space, you can refine the search results.

What is the Q-PMDJ?

The Q-PMDJ provides data on plant macrofossils that have been recorded in Japan since 1883. It covers the occurrence of fossil and extant taxa, as well as relevant geologic and geographic data based on published literature. Users can search for information on plant species that have existed in Japan for the last five million years, including their distribution pattern; this can potentially provide the data needed to understand the evolutionary history of plants in Japan and East Asia.

Users can search for:

@ plant species occurrence (based mainly on the literature)
@ geologic information for each fossil
@ source literature on each fossil
and can show:
@ geographic distribution patterns and their changes over the past five million years

We followed the latest geologic time scale (see http://www.stratigraphy.org/) and tried to revise the age of each fossil record as much as possible. However, those without detailed stratigraphic information in their source data follow only their original description. Users are very welcome to inform us of any errors or needs for further revision of this dataset.
