Tsukuba District
Tsukuba Research Departments
Researchers from the Department of Zoology, the Department of Botany, the Department of Geology and Paleontology, the Department of Anthropology, and the Department of Science conduct research here. The facility also houses the Center
for Collections, the Center for Molecular Biodiversity Research, and the Center for the History of Japanese Industrial Technology.
The facility is open to the public during the annual Open Lab event. (Please note that it is not generally open for public viewing.)
Tsukuba Botanical Garden
In an area spanning approximately 140,000 square meters, diverse vegetation environments from Japan and around the world are recreated, allowing for experiential learning of the diversity of plant morphology and ecology through the exhibited plants. Researchers from the Department of Botany also conduct research here.
Shirokanedai Area
Institute for Nature Study
Spanning approximately 200,000 square meters, this facility is home to a wide variety of plants, insects, and birds. It serves as an outdoor exhibit where visitors can observe diverse organisms throughout the seasons.
