Using salt!?Let’s Draw Sparkling Pictures!
In the "Let's Try" section, we've prepared two experiments you can try at home. Since we'll be using "salt recrystallization," try to remember what you've learned so far.
Crafts you can make in "Let's Try"
- Let's draw sparkling pictures (takes about 1 hour)
- Let's make crystal ornaments (takes about 1–2 days)

It's time for the long-awaited crafts and experiments! Make sure to do it with your family.
Okay!
Here, we'll start with a craft called "Let's Draw Sparkling Pictures."
I wonder what it will be like…jQuery22001602677891386617_1759311650069
First, let's get the things you'll need:
You will need:
- Salt: 35 g
- Water: 100 g
- Cup
- Chopsticks
- Black construction paper
- A paintbrush
First, we'll make saturated saltwater.
That's the salty water we learned about earlier.
Exactly. It's the salt water where salt has dissolved to the point where no more can dissolve.
Pour the water and salt into the cup, and stir well with the chopsticks or something similar.

Okay!
Once your saltwater is ready, dip your paintbrush into it and use it to paint a picture on the black paper.
Like this?
Looks great! Load your brush with plenty of saltwater and keep painting away!
Okay, I'm done. But it just looks like the paper is wet...
Now, here comes the fun part!
If it's a sunny day, put the black paper in a sunny spot and let it dry. If you're in a hurry, you can use a hair dryer on the low setting to dry it quickly. The key is to move the paper very gently.

Hey, it's starting to sparkle!
Do you know what that sparkle is?
It's recrystallized salt!
Yes, that's exactly right!!
So the salt that dissolved in water has turned back into salt crystals. It's beautiful, isn't it?

Yeah, it's beautiful.
If you apply another coat after it dries, the crystals will get thicker and sparkle even more. Be careful not to tear the paper when you do it.
Thank you so much!
