Assistant Researcher (Short-term, part-time employee)

2. Job Description and Number of Positions

The successful applicant will assist in the maintenance and operation of mass spectrometers and related sample preparation systems managed by the Division of Paleoenvironment and Paleoecology, Department of Paleontology and Anthropology.
Number of positions: One (1)

3. Work Location

National Museum of Nature and Science, Tsukuba Research Center
4-1-1 Amakubo, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan

4. Employment Period

Starting from February 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter (the start date is negotiable).
The contract may be renewed annually based on performance and funding, up to a maximum of five (5) years.

5. Qualifications and Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals both inside and outside the facility and to work collaboratively and cooperatively in performing duties (required).
Applicants should preferably have experience operating analytical instruments such as a MAT253 mass spectrometer and a Kiel IV carbonate preparation device, as the position involves assisting in related analytical work.
Holders of a Ph.D. degree are particularly encouraged to apply.

6. Working Hours and Days

Applicants may choose one of the following work schedules (negotiable):
Option 1: 6 hours per day, 5 days per week (Monday-Friday), 9:00-16:00 (with a 1-hour lunch break)
Option 2: 7.5 hours per day, 4 days per week (Monday-Friday), 8:30-17:00 (with a 1-hour lunch break)

7. Salary and Benefits

Hourly wage: Approximately ¥1,610 - ¥2,160, commensurate with education and experience.
Commuting allowance: Provided in accordance with institutional regulations, if applicable.
Social insurance: Included.
