Department of Botany Building
Overview
The Department of Botany houses over 1.9 million specimens. Specimens are stored by taxonomic group in the Department of Botany Building and the Natural History Collection Wing. The collection includes many valuable research specimens, including type
specimens.
The collection includes about 1.2 million vascular plants (seed plants and ferns), 220,000 bryophytes, 100,000 macroalgae, 40,000 microalgae, 150,000 fungi, 130,000 lichens, and 74,000 slime molds.
We regularly publish exsiccatae (specimen collections) and conduct specimen exchanges to enhance our collection.
