Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Global Society, Kyushu University
Since the 2010 fiscal year, the Museum has been collaborating with Kyushu University to provide research guidance to graduate students from the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Global Society (Graduate School of Social and Cultural Studies).
The Museum possesses a vast collection of specimens not found at universities or other research institutions. Students who wish to conduct research that leverages the museum's unique features, particularly its collection, can now receive guidance from
researchers at the National Museum of Nature and Science.
Currently, the three researchers below from the Museum are providing such guidance.
Soil Entomology and Insect Inventory Studies
Shuhei Nomura, Visiting Professor
Our research focuses primarily on Pselaphine beetles (order Coleoptera, family Staphylinidae), tiny beetles that inhabit the soil of forests and grasslands. We study the ecology and diversity of Pselaphine beetles within their ecosystem, and we are working to compile a species inventory and explore its applications.

Isao Nishiumi, Visiting Professor
Our research has focused on the breeding ecology and speciation of birds. Recently, we have been working on registering DNA barcodes for Japanese birds and conducting comparative studies of the resulting sequences among populations. In particular, we are investigating how many species that diverged in Japan have since expanded their range to the continent.

Tatsuya Ide, Visiting Associate Professor
We study the taxonomy, ecology, and phylogeny of bees and gall-inducing insects. We also conduct research on species identification using DNA barcoding methods.
