Special Exhibition The OCEAN –The Origin of Life

The ocean symbolizes the aquatic Earth, and is the source of life found there. The ocean covers 70% of the Earth's surface, it is amassive pathway for the transport of energy and material, and drives the ecosystems across the globe. Land-based humans have used it to drive their prosperity and as a major food source.

However, a shocking prediction was made at the World Economic Forum in 2016: "By 2050, the amount of plastic waste in the ocean will exceed the total weight of fish”. The environmental impact of human activities is manifesting in the ocean.

Past "Deep Ocean" special exhibitions held at the National Museum of Nature and Science introduced the challenges for humans exploring the deep ocean and the life that is found there. This special exhibition, "The Ocean", will introduce the origin of the ocean, the diverse kinds of life found there, and the complex relationship between humans and the ocean.
