What's the Staphylinidological Society of Japan?

The Staphylinidological Society of Japan is a biological society studying the superfamily Staphylinoidea which is a taxonomical group of beetles. Our biological study includes taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, physiology, biogeography, faunistic study and the other kinds of researches.

The Staphylinidological Society of Japan is oparative since June 1996, and established formally at 1st Jan. 1997. Its address is located in the Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba. The managing staffs are as follows: Dr. Shun-Ichiro Naomi (Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba), Dr. Shuhei Nomura (National Science Museum, Tokyo) and Dr. Toshio Kishimoto (Tokyo University of Agriculture). The Kansai branch of the society started in 1998, which is managed by Dr. Yasuhiko Hayashi and Mr. Tateo Ito. We have sixty-four members as of Feb. 1999.

A meeting is held in June or July and a collecting tour in October or November as annual schedule of this society around Tokyo. We publish "The Newsletter of the Staphylinidological Society of Japan" in three times for a year. The Kansai branch originally have meetings, collecting tours and publish its newsletters.
