D VIII - I, 24 - 26; A II - I, 20 - 23; GR 10 - 14 + 27 - 32 = 40 - 46. Body compressed, oblong and elongated. No teeth on upper jaw; adipose eyelid well developed on posterior half of eye. Shoulder girdle (cleithrum) margin smooth without papillae. Dorsal and anal fins without finlets. Straight part of lateral line with 13 - 25 cycloid scales followed by 24 - 29 relatively small scutes. Color: body metallic blue-green dorsally, silvery white ventrally, with a broad longitudinal yellow stripe from upper margin of eye to caudal peduncle; upper opercle with a prominent black spot; second dorsal, anal, and caudal fins yellowish. Size: maximum length about 20 cm. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific, from Persian Gulf to eastern Australia. Remarks: inhabits soft bottom area at depths shallower than 50 m.
