Dermatocarpon
moulinsii (Mont.) Zahlbr.
Dermatocarpon moulinsii is a large foliose lichen growing on rocks
that stand almost vertical to the ground. The thallus is circular (2-5 cm
in diameter) and monopyllous and polyphyllous, adhering to the substrates
with umbilicus. The surface is brownish and is covered with gray pruina.
The reverse is black and clustered rhizines are seen. Perithecia are embedded
within the thallus.
Widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere but in Japan, found only in
Mt. Yubari, Hokkaido and Oga Peninsula in Akita Pref.
