Physma
radians Vainio

Physma radians is a medium-sized foliose lichen grown on tree trunks.
It can be distinguished from allied species by radiating lobes with conspicuous
wrinkles on the upper surface, the brown lower surface with sparse rhizines,
the paraplectenchymatous upper cortex of lobes, the lecanorine apothecia
with nitid brown discs, colorless single ascospores and by the absence of
chemical substances.
In Japan, it is considered to be a rare species growing in south Kii Peninsula,
south Shikoku and south Kyushu and Ryukyu. With felling of evergreen trees,
its habitat will probably recede further.
