Gymnoderma
insulare Yoshim.
Gymnoderma insulare resembles G. coccophorum but differs
in having medium-sized squamules, 5-8 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, 0.2-0.3 mm thick
and the thickness of the cortex is more than twice that of the medulla.
This species has been known to occur in Japan and Taiwan. In Japan, it is
found on old Cryptomeria japonica in Mt. Koya, Mt. Tsurugi of Shikoku
and Mt. Higo, Fukuoka Pref. But recent report confirmed only of Okuno-in,
Mt. Koya.
