D 9 - 11 (usually 10); A 9 - 10 (usually 10); P1 16 - 19. Head and body covered with small spinules except for snout. Nasal organ with 2 bifid fleshy flaps. Color: body greenish brown to dark brown dorsally, paler ventrally; many longitudinal dark brown lines running on body; dorsal and anal fins yellowish; pectoral fins pale with yellow rays; caudal fin yellowish brown with dark margin. Size: maximum 30 cm, commonly to 25 cm. Distribution: tropical eastern Indian Ocean including Sri Lanka and West Pacific.
