D 6 - 7; A 20 - 25; P1 11; LR 28 - 29. Body moderately slender and compressed. Eyes large; mouth small, superior, non-protrusible; lower jaw projecting beyond upper jaw. Base of anal fin much longer than dorsal fin base. Caudal fin truncate. Color: semi-transparent, tinged with light brown, rapidly turns to pale after death; head and body with numerous minute melanophores; margin of caudal fin yellow. Size: 3.5 cm. Distribution: Sundaland, Sulawesi and Lombok. Remarks: found in mangroves and coastal area near estuaries. Surface swimming, schooling fish, feeds on copepods, small insects, and mollusk and crustacean larvae. Oviparous; female carries the fertilized eggs around urogenital opening until depositing those on water plants.
