Dorsal and anal fins separated from caudal fin. Pectoral fins absent. Pelvic-fin bases unequal in length, the right one with an elongated base and attached posteriorly to genital papilla. Anterior nostril tube on eyed side not reaching to anterior edge of lower eye. Series of toxin glands with pores along bases of dorsal and anal-fin rays. Color: body reddish brown with many white blotches and dark blotches. Size: maximum 22 cm commonly to 15 cm. Distribution: tropical Indo-West Pacific northward to southern Japan, southward to northern Australia. (Keiichi Matsuura)
