D VI + I, 26-29; A I, 25-28; P1 22-23; LR ca. 170; PDS 0.

Body elongate, compressed. Head compressed; lower jaw projecting anteriorly beyond upper jaw; chin with a median fleshy barbel; gill opening moderately wide, extending anteriorly to a vertical line through middle of operculum. First dorsal fin low, without elongate spines; pelvic fins separated; caudal fin near truncate, with 2-6 prolonged filamentous rays. Scales on body small, cycloid, mostly embedded and non-imbricate; head naked. Sensory canals and pores present on head; reduced transverse pattern of sensorypapillae rows on cheek. Color: head and body beige dorsally, whitish ventrally; crescent-shaped orange bar (narrow ventrally) at base of pectoral fin; iris black, with golden anterior and posterior parts. Size: 11.2 cm SL. Distribution: Red Sea, Persian Gulf and Andaman Sea. Remarks: found in shallow coral reefs; known often using burrows of shrimp-associated gobies as refuges. Present identification is highly provisional, because the Andaman specimens differ from the other populations in elongation of caudal-fin rays and some coloration.
