Black and Gold Chromis

D XIII, 13-14; A II, 13-15; P1 17; LLp 15-17.

Body ovate, compressed. Posterior margin of preopercle smooth. Ventral margin of suborbital concealed by scales. Teeth on jaws biserial, incisorlike. Caudal fin emarginage, with no conspicuous projecting spine-like rays at upper and lower edges of caudalfin base. Color: head and body dark gray, shading to yellow posteriorly; a transverse blackish bar along posterior margin of preopercle; juvenile orange yellow, with two black stripes on side. Size: 9.0 cm SL. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, Andaman Sea and Western Pacific. Remarks: found in coral reefs.
