Body relatively short, compressed; head subcylindrical; jaws subequal; gill opening not reaching anteriorly to a vertical through preopercular margin. Pelvic fins united medially; frenum absent. Scales ctenoid; head, breast, and pectoral-fin base naked. Sensory canals and pores present on head; reduced longitudinal pattern of sensory-papillae rows on cheek; a pair of sensory papillae just behind chin. Color: ground color of head and body yellowish, subtranslucent (immediately turned to pale just after death); several reddish orange spots on head and pectoral-fn base; distal margin of scale pockets reddish orange; several subcutaneous vertical reddish bars on ventral part of body. Size: 2.0 cm SL. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific. Remarks: typically found in crevices and caves of coral reefs.
