Body elongate, compressed. Head depressed, with several small barbels; lower jaw a little projecting beyond upper jaw; gill opening not reaching to a vertical through posterior margin of preopercle. Anterior margin of tongue rounded. Pelvic fins united medially; frenum present. Scales on body cycloid; head, pectoralfin base and prepelvic region naked. Sensory canals and pores present on head; longitudinal pattern of sensory papillae on cheek; uniserial transverse row of sensory papillae just behind chin. Color: 4-6 dark saddles on head and body, in addition to a vertical dark bar at caudal-fin base. Size: 3.6 cm SL. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific. Remarks: found around rubbles on coral reefs.
