Body relatively short, compressed. Head slightly depressed; jaws subequal; gill opening not extending anteriorly to a vertical through posterior margin of preopercle. Pelvic fins united medially; freunm present. Scales ctenoid; cheek, pectoral-fin base and breast naked. Sensory canals and pores absent on head; longitudinal pattern of sensory-papillae rows on cheek; a pair of sensory papillae just behind chin. Color: body pale (tinged with vivid orange on caudal peduncle) with 4 broad black bands, 2 of which on caudal peduncle behind end of anal-fin base; head mottled with black blotches. Size: 1.8 cm SL. Distribution: Western Pacific and Andaman Sea. Remarks: found in quiet waters of mangrove areas with soft muddy bottoms.
