Long erectile spines on head and body; 16-21 spine from top of snout to dorsal fin; frontal spines shorter than spines posterior to pectoral fin. All fins without spines. Color: large dorsal dark blotches with a distinct light border. Size: maximum to 50 cm. Distribution: widely distributed in tropical Indo-West Pacific from East Africa eastward to Tuamotu Islands, north to southern Japan. Remarks: occurring mainly in coral reefs.
