Snout short, blunt and robust; predorsal profile nearly straight. Lateral line incomplete. Caudal fin slightly rounded, corners angled. Color: whitish or bluish white with curved to oblique thick black lines on sides; yellow-edged black bar on snout, through eye and across operculum; median fins yellowish with black submarginal bands. Size: maximum length about 20 cm. Distribution: Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Line Islands. Remarks: inhabits coral reefs at depths of 5-25 m. Usually seen in pairs. Feeds on coral polyps.
