Snout projecting; predorsal contour convex at nape, concave at nostrils. Lateral line incomplete. Caudal fin truncate to slightly rounded. Color: overall white with black elliptical marking along base of soft portion of dorsal fin and extending across caudal peduncle to base of posterior anal rays; a series of vertical, black lines across sides; dorsal, caudal and anal fins bright yellow; a prominent black band through eye, leaving white spot on space between nape and interorbital. Size: maximum length about 30 cm. Distribution: Indo-Pacific. Remarks: inhabits coral reefs at depths of 2-40 m.
