Snout short, predorsal contour straight. Lateral line incomplete. Caudal fin truncate to slightly rounded. Color: 2 broad whitish bars, one behind eye and the other across middle of body, separated by brown bar; yellowish brown on posterior half of body; a black bar through eye, united on chest and continuing to or near pelvic fin insertion; pelvic fins black; caudal fin yellowish with clear posterior margin. Size: maximum length about 14 cm. Distribution: Indo-Pacific, from East Africa and Red Sea to Hawaiian Islands and Samoa. Remarks: inhabits coral reefs and rocky reefs at depths of 10-40 m. Omnivorous.
