Snout short; predorsal contour straight and steep. Lateral line incomplete. Caudal fin truncate to slightly rounded. Color: pale tan dorsally, shading to creamy white ventrally, with many small brownish black spots covering body and dorsal and anal fins, arranged in weak pattern of vertical and horizontal lines; black eyeband joined at nape; caudal fin pale yellow with a black vertical band in the middle. Size: maximum length about 12 cm. Distribution: Indian Ocean, from East Africa to Andaman Sea. Remarks: inhabits coral reefs at depths of 5-25 m.
