Body ovate, somewhat elongate, strongly compressed; dorsal and ventral profiles almost equally convex. Both jaws with villiform teeth bands. Dorsal fin lobe longer than anal fin lobe in specimens > 25 cm FL. No scutes. Color: body silvery blue-gray dorsally, silvery white ventrally, with 1-6 black spots laterally; lobes of dorsal, anal and caudal fins black. Size: maximum length about 60 cm. Distribution: widely distributed in Indo-Pacific, from eastern coast of Africa to Line Islands and Society Islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Remarks: found in surf zones along sandy beach. Feeds on small fishes. Marketed fresh or dried.
