Body oblong, moderately deep and compressed; lateral line well developed, extending posteriorly to caudal-fin base. Snout moderately pointed. Posterior margin of preopercle serrated. No enlarged caninoid teeth on jaws. Base of anal fin subequal to base of second dorsal fin in length; ultimate anal-fin ray elongate, forming concave distal border of anal fin; caudal fin emarginate. Color: body pale brown with 5 longitudinal dusky stripes (ventralmost one narrowest and sometimes indistinct), narrower than paler interspaces; a dusky rounded spot (subequal or slightly smaller than pupil) at caudalfin base; fins transparent, with reddish rays. Size: 8 cm SL. Distribution: Indo-Pacific. Remarks: inhabits coral reefs. Randall (2005) placed this species in genus Ostorhinchus, previously treated as subgenus of Apogon.
