  • By train and bus
    • Tsukuba Express
      Akihabara Station to Tsukuba Station and transfer to bus*

    • JR Joban Line
      Ueno Station to Hitachino Ushiku Station, or Arakawaoki Station, or Tsuchiura Station. Transfer to JR bus bound for Tsukuba Center or Kanto Railway bus bound for University of Tsukuba Central. Alight at Tsukuba Center and transfer to bus*

    • Express Bus
      Tokyo Station Yaesu-minami (Yaesu South) Exit to Tsukuba Center and transfer to bus*

      Take any of the following Kanto Railway buses from Tsukuba Center.

      A. Tsuku-Bus (North: Hokubu Shuttle) alight at "Tsukuba Jikkenshokubutsuen Mae (Tsukuba Botanical Garden Mae)" bus stop. 3 min. walk.

      B. Techno-Park Oho Route. Alight at "Tsukuba Jikkenshokubutsuen Mae (Tsukuba Botanical Garden Mae)" bus stop. 3 min. walk.

      C. Tsukuba Daigaku Route Hidari Mawari Course (Tsukuba University Circle Line, counter-clockwise). Alight at "Amakubo 2-chome" bus stop. 8 min. walk.

      D. (Sat., Sun. and holidays only) Tsukuba Science Tour Bus, North course. Arrive at "Tsukuba Shokubutsuen (Tsukuba Botanical Garden)" bus stop.

      * If you choose to take a taxi from "Tsukuba Center" bus station to "Tsukuba Botanical Garden" bus stop, the ride should take about 5 min.


  • By Car
    Take the Joban Expressway "Sakura-Tsuchiura IC" exit and drive north about 8km. Free parking available.
Hours of Operation
9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (visitors are admitted until 4:00 PM.)
Hours are sometimes extended for special exhibitions.
Days Closed
Every Monday (If Monday is a national holiday, the Museum is open Monday and closed the following Tuesday.)
The day after a public holiday (if the day after a public holiday is a Saturday or Sunday, the Institute is open.)
Year-end/New Year holiday (December 28 to January 4)
* On some occasions the Institute is open to visitors even on the above holidays.

  • Persons aged 65 or over are admitted free. Please present some form of identification indicating age.
  • Disabled persons, plus one caregiver per disabled person, are admitted free. Please present your Disabled Person's Notebook or similar identification.
  • The following persons are admitted free:
    • FNSM members
    • Repeaters Pass holders
    • Supporting Members
    • Students of University Partnership member universities and the instructors leading them
  • Persons wishing to re-enter the Garden on the same day are asked to inquire at the information desk.

Nights for Astronomical Observation

  • Nights for Astronomical Observation are offered for about two hours from sunset on clear nights, on the second Saturday of each month.
  • The following persons are admitted free:
    • FNSM members
    • Repeaters Pass holders
    • Supporting Members
    • Students of University Partnership member universities and the instructors leading them
