Educational Volunteers
Educational Volunteers
At the heart of our study-support activities at the National Museum of Nature and Science are our educational volunteers, a large corps of enthusiastic individuals who love being with people, love science and share the goals of the Museum. There's no better way to experience the Museum than through conversation and interaction with a Museum educational volunteer.
1. Activities in the Exploration Space

The Exploration Space is an exhibit room where visitors can freely touch and operate the exhibits for themselves. Located on floors 2 and 3 of the Global Gallery, the educational volunteers can help you experience the wonders of nature and the thrill of science. Feel free to ask plenty of questions.
2. Guided Tours

Guided tours, about an hour in duration, offer a handy overview of the highlights of the Museum. Learn about the Museum through the unique perspective of your own educational volunteer. Our guided tours are a popular feature, with a growing fan base that keeps coming back.
- Tours in Japanese begin at 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM, every day the Museum is open, as well as at 11:30 AM Thursdays and Sundays only.
- Tours in English are available once in a month, the third Sunday at 11:00 AM.
- All tours start in front of the Lounge on floor B1F at the Japan Gallery.
- Reservations are not accepted. Please note that in some cases tours may be cancelled according to circumstances.
3. Guide to General Exhibits
Educational volunteers provide an overview of the permanent exhibits in the Global Gallery and Japan Gallery, covering topics from animals, plants and the earth sciences to anthropology and physics. Using demonstrations with action figures, observation by microscope and much more, the educational volunteers will help you enjoy and gain from your Museum visit.
4. Activities at the Forest Sample Box Counter

At the Forest Sample Box Counter (Global Gallery, 3F), choose from 16 study kits, packed with samples and materials on themes such as "eggs" and "insects." Enjoy the exhibits from a whole new perspective.
5. Providing Information at the Global Gallery Information Desk

The Global Gallery Information Desk provides a wide range of information about the Museum exhibits. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
6. Activities in the Museum Exploration Classroom
In the Museum Exploration Classroom, located in the Exploration Corner (Global Gallery, 2F), visitors receive instruction on experimentation and observation. There's even a menu of events planned specially by the education volunteers.
7. Special Programs by the Educational Volunteers

Special events planned and executed by the Educational Volunteers are often provided on Saturdays or Sundays. (No fixed schedule for these events) What's next?
